cultivating positive workplace culture for black staff

Since my first year working for the University of California, Berkeley, in 2015, I have been significantly involved in a leadership capacity with the Black Staff & Faculty Organization (BSFO). Like many ERG’s in the professional world, BSFO is an identity-based organization that celebrates the diversity of staff members, while also offering a safe space on campus to share, support, and learn about one another.

BSFO specifically was developed in 1979 to address the issues and concerns unique to employees at the University of California, Berkeley. The mission of BSFO is to create a climate which is conducive to the well-being and professional development aspirations of Black staff, faculty and students.

For me personally, I found BSFO as a space for me to find a sense of belonging on a large campus, and through the organization, I have gained mentors, built friendships, led campus-wide initiatives, and had a lot of fun.

As the returning Vice Chair/ Communications Chair for BSFO, I have crafted numerous resources for our 700+ members through engaging and meaningful newsletters, and I invite you to view some of my archives below!
